Wedding photography at The Gatehouse, St Albans, Hertfordshire
St Albans is a beautiful historic market town set in Hertfordshire. St Albans Registry Office or The Gatehouse, an imposing Victorian building, makes a wonderful venue for any civil ceremony wedding . The building is surrounded by a large beautiful garden with an impressive cannon outside the main entrance, which also provides an unusual backdrop for any wedding photography (and also a great way for me to get that extra bit of height when I need it).
When I arrived, early, a couple of the guests were already there and the doors were opened especially for us, which was good as it was a bit cold and damp to start with. I got set up quickly and was able to capture the groom and his best man as they arrived along with some of the other guests. Then it was time for the bride to arrive.
While the bride was having her meeting with the registrar it was a chance for me to capture that awkward moment of waiting. It’s always a fun one for me. The groom was in this case very settled and sharing a joke with his best man, the guests were at ease and the kids, well they were just kids.
As the ceremony progressed I captured all of the moments that happened until the service ended and we all went outside to capture the group photos. We captured a few of the shots in front of the main doors before moving to the gardens to capture the larger groups shots. I also managed to get on top of the wall for a better vantage point for the full group shot (not that easy when the wall is nearly as tall as you and you have a camera in your hand).
After the service it was time for the bride, groom and guests to go to their reception while I went home to begin editing all of their wedding photos.
